Schloss Ambras in Innsbruck

Schloss Ambras Innsbruck

In the Renaissance it was a must for every prince to own a castle, and exactly for this reason the Archduke Ferdinand II ordered the construction of the Ambras Castle, using the foundations of a medieval fortification clinging on a rocky spur in the south-east part of the city.

Among all the sumptuous furnishings, not to miss are the Spanish Hall, one of the most remarkable examples of Renaissance restoration in Europe, and the Art hall, where it is possible to admire some very rare and valuable historic-cultural features. The beautiful park, a fine example of Renaissance garden, is also worth a visit.
