Hofburg Innsbruck

The renovation of this ancient gothic complex was based on the project of Albrecht Durer, and was commissioned by the Empress Maria Teresa, who took inspiration from the Schobrunn Castle in Vienna.

In fact the sumptuous halls and the imperial apartments visibly remind of the style of Schonbrunn, especially the Altmutter Hall, the Guards Hall, the Emperor’s Hall, the Chinese Hall, and above all, the perfect rococo style of the Giants Hall(Riesensaal), the very heart of the castle, and the wonderful ceiling frescoes painted by Franz Anton Maulbertsch, representing the union between the Augsburg and Lorena families.

Not to miss a promenade in the romantic garden, Hofgarten, stretching out for 7 hectares, rich of trees and flower-beds. In the middle of the garden lies the ancient Emperor Tea Hall, which hosts today the contemporary art gallery of Tyrol.
